In “Legal Pursuits Continue: Nassau University Medical Center Files Claims Again Nassau County Interim Finance Authority” (Long Island Herald, December 6, 2024), the Long Island Herald reports on a $1.06 billion Notice of Claim filed with Attorney General Letitia James by Nassau University Medical Center against New York State. The claim accuses the state of illegally withholding funds owed to the hospital as part of the federal Disproportionate Share Hospital program.
Pollock Cohen partner, Steve Cohen, commented, “NIFA’s failure to uncover the state’s Medicaid fraud scam has deprived the hospital and those it serves of substantial aid — its unwillingness to provide basic fiscal supervision is truly shocking. If all this behavior wasn’t intentional, it was certainly grossly negligent.”
The NUMC board is represented in this matter by Pollock Cohen LLP partner Steve Cohen and Susman Godfrey LLP partner Steven M. Shepard.
