In “A 'Fabricated Narrative'?: Delaware Lawsuit Filed by Disinformation Expert Against Fox News Alleges 'Obsessive Defamation'” (Delaware Law Weekly, May 11, 2023), Law.com covers the defamation lawsuit filed against Fox News Network and Fox Corporation by Pollock Cohen, Farnan LLP, and Upper Seven Law on behalf of Nina Jankowicz, the former executive director of the former Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board.
The Delaware Law Weekly article notes that Ms. Jankowicz was “recognized as an expert on disinformation and has authored two books on the topic. She’s previously worked with the Ukrainian government on issues related to Russian disinformation.” As a result of her work combatting disinformation, Ms. Jankowicz became the primary subject of attacks by the network and Fox hosts including Tucker Carlson, Maria Bartiromo, and Sean Hannity. In an eight-month period, Fox mentioned her on air more than 300 times, claiming that she was attempting to censor the American people.
Ms. Jankowicz resigned from her role at the Disinformation Governance Board to escape the attacks and disinformation peddled by Fox and its hosts, leading hosts Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters to falsely report that she had been fired.
“My life has been irrevocably altered because Fox News repeatedly force-fed lies about me to tens of millions of their viewers. Tens of thousands have harassed me online. Hundreds have violently threatened me,” Jankowicz wrote on her GoFundMe page, as reported by Delaware Law Weekly. “I am far from the only American to experience this type of Fox-led hate campaign, and it must stop.”
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of the State of Delaware by Pollock Cohen LLP, Upper Seven Law, and Farnan LLP.
